Weeding before weed and feed

I am planning to apply some weed and feed to my back garden late april/early may (that is the best time to do it according to the instructions).

I was thinking about spending a day tomorrow trying to pull out all the weeds. Is it a bad idea doing this before applying the weed and feed late next month?

Why would you spend a day removing weeds and then apply weedkiller?

Because the weedkiller I applied last year did not appear to work.

Yes, I read in a magazine recently that weeding before hand is worthwhile. I cannot see the logic behind this and hence the reason for the question.

I would put down the W&F first, Then after a few weeks spot treat the weeds that haven't died with Verdone.

Then in future just buy a Feed only product and carry on spot weeding as and when.
Scarifier in the Autumn followed by top dressing and Autumn feed.
