flowers in the house

Am I alone in not really liking flowers in vases in the house.

This sounds very ungrateful as people kindly buy you flowers but i love to see them growing outside but presented with a bunch I then have to vase them up and find somewhere to put them.

I do on the other hand like indoor plants as they look nice and have added health benefits.

Likewise, I very rarely cut flowers from my own garden.

But I have around 50 indoor plants

I love cut flowers and hope to set aside part of the garden to grow them. If I had more money I'd have several arrangements in different places rather than just one on the mantlepiece occasionally.

I like them but each to their own :) I buy them or cut from the garden. I do leave plenty in the garden though ;)

I'm not wild about flowers in vases or flower arranging, but that's just the adult in me which dislikes impermanence, I suppose.

On another thread I was saying how children like to make things, and then unmake them, which is exactly what adults who create arrangements do. Good luck to them; they're more rational than me. Everything changes.

I don't know why I said "arrangements" - much as I like them I tend to stick a bunch in a jug and hope for the best.

  • My better half doesn't like flowers in the house, with the exception of daffodils at this time of year, and then sweet peas later on. I think sweet peas are the perfect cut flower, because if you don't cut them they stop flowering, so it's not as if you're spoiling the display in the garden.
  • I like cut flowers in the house, I can see they are a bit wasteful but they do cheer me up.
I love flowers in the garden too, but rarely cut flowers from there to display indoors, (I would see that as spoiling the garden!) In fact, for the house, I usually buy flowers that I don't, or can't, grow myself.
