Building Control Cost

I am looking to build a 16 sq metre ground floor extension to my home. The cost is £19,200
I have been told by an architect that it will only require building control not planning. He has suggested I appoint a council approved inspector.
I have three quotes of between £900 and £1000. I thought this was a bit high.
My local council is Enfield.
Can someone help me find out what the cost is (on the scale) if I work directly with the council? Thank you

When we did our loft conversion we used Aedis - I think they cost around £600-700.0

My goodness I'm struck by the cost for the extension, that is great value! How so cheap?
(Sorry I have no advice on BC!)0 -
Have you looked at the Enfield Council website?
* Planning - I would make absolutely sure it falls within 'Permitted Development'.
* Building Control - if the fees are not on the website, ring and ask?0 -
