I am Spinkz - I have over 50 years experience. OH does however love to give me advice - and I think the last complete meal he cooked was back in 2002.
I did teach him to make pastry and he is quite passable at that - however, as he has no clue what to do with said pastry, I question whether that means he can cook.
supper tonight was slow cooked breast of lamb with mint gravy, buttery mashed potato and green French beans and peas. OH couldn't have done that!

I would imagine that most women would find this hard to answer, as it's only them that does the cooking.

Men claim they are better; 'most chefs are male blah blah blah,' well put your money where your mouth is then, and share the cooking at home!

(cue a shed load of men claiming they DO share the cooking at home. ;) )
I think you'll probably find that is not true. I think most couples at least share the responsibility of cooking nowadays.

Depending on who's home at tea time, then that's who does tea. Unless it's a slow cooker meal and then of course that gets put on in the morning.

We're both good cooks, but I think DH maybe just has the edge due to him being better at seasoning, timing and his ability to handle fish. _pale_
I don't know any couples in real life who share the cooking.

I know one man who does all the cooking for that family (SAHD) beyond which it's all done by the women, who either do or don't work outside the home.

So I've been amazed by how many men on this thread cook, having hardly met any ever.

Next I'll be finding out housework is shared too ...

Have to agree with Fiery and Lunar. I don't know any household or couple or family who share the cooking. It's almost always the woman that does it. I know it doesn't sit well with some to accept or acknowledge this, but it is pretty much almost always the woman who cooks for the family.

I certainly do most of ours. So the question 'who is the better cook?' cannot be answered, as my husband rarely cooks.

I reckon the women who claim they have partners who cook as often as them, are the same households where they claim they cook from scratch. These are also the same people who claim to have a university degree, and claim to have a high flying professional job. Yet they seem to spend an awful lot of time on this forum. ;)

That's us. Including the amount of time spent browsing MSE

Tonight was a change from the usual routine because I've been off sick this week and on Monday I couldn't face cooking and so ordered a takeaway. That meant I had the ingredients for a meal going spare and so we chipped in and prepared Lemon Chicken with soba noodles together, once I got in from work.

It is. When both are working equal hours then of course it's shared. Unless you're being sarcastic of course? I can't quite tell!

I know so many men who do their share in the cooking. One of my bosses was always sharing recipes with me. Again, him and his wife both shared cooking duties.

I was being sarcastic, though again I don't see much of this sharing that my brilliant fellow MSE's do in real life. :-)

I currently enjoy the freedom of not working, so it's appropriate that I do these tasks, though that has not always been the case and is definitely one reason why I'm not rushing back to the office.

As a respectful nod to the lovely Mr Lunar, I will say that not only does he iron all his own work shirts, he is (therefore) considerably better at ironing. Perfectly ironed is his goal every time. And therefore he looks rather dashing in his suits.

Seems to me that some of the women who's husbands don't do their share of cooking seem to have a bee in their bonnet about it! Otherwise, why insinuate that those who do must be lying?

Cook from scratch? Yes, mainly. Ready meals that are worth eating are very few and far between. But we like things like stews, tattie pots, stir frys, so yes, things that need to be made from scratch and are both simple, nutritious and filling.

University degree and high flying job, no. :rotfl:

Petra why do you always try and stir the pot? This is just a discussion based on people's individual household. Its not man vs woman! As everyone can see from the replies, in each household the man does share some of the responsibility, with exception to the creme brulee making cat :rotfl:

With the BiB i know who you are talking about. I cant say that person is 1 of my favourite posters on here, but your gripe with her for getting your thread moved board is silly. I hate to remind you, but you did the exact same thing to me and i wasn't bothered by it :p

  • I would say we're about the same. We're both capable of cooking good quality meals from scratch but we have different strengths.

I tend to cook the same types of meals regularly (Sunday roast type dinners, various pasta dishes, chicken, etc); things that I either learned to make myself or was taught by a relative/flatmate. My OH likes to cook something new from a recipe book. I cook more often but I have more time because he works very long hours. Clashing shifts mean we do not sit down to dinner together every day. He bakes quite often though whereas I hardly ever bake.

Hubby prefers to cook traditional British or European grub, whereas I prefer Asian cooking. I cook Mon-Wed, hubby cooks Thurs-Fri and we both team up at the weekend.

The kids tend to prefer hubby's cooking but I reckon it's because I have a more sophisticated pallet :p

Sophisticated pallet, eh? Like this one?:
