Used Car Promised with Dealer Warranty but on calling not registered.
Slightly embarrassing this one;
Bought a used car from "Prestige Cars of Coventry" for £4k which included 12 months warranty via autoguard warranties. 4 months later, electrical problem resulting in £420 garage bill and £180 vehicle recovery costs.
Called Warranty company, registration not recognised.
Called "Prestige" land line - no longer exists.
Called Mobile number provided - no longer exists.
Sent email to them - no response.
All that remains is an address and a VAT number (which does come up on a search). Can I file this in the small claims court? Are there other steps to take first, i.e. writing a letter sent registered post?
Here's the truly humiliating bit; all I have is a receipt outlining make, model, reg but not stating the warranty. Plus an A4 leaflet entitled "Dealer Guarantee" which the dealer wrote his email address on.
I should have known this was going to go bad when I had to write to the DVLA for the V5.
If its considered adequate evidence, I did have the fiance there at time of purchase who witnessed the whole process.
Comments and advice welcome.
Thanks, Tel.

Prestige Cars of Coventry are they the Romanians in Lockhurst Lane?
Are you calling 024 7663 8539?0 -
Yep and I'm guessing yep!0

They've clearly done a runner.
Is it worth any kind of legal claim? You pay your fee and fill in the forms. They won't put in a defence, you'll get a judgement in default... then... what?0 -
Did you pay by credit card or debit card?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

Good point, well made.... just feels like there should be some retort... I guess that's the price of stupid for me.
Credit Card.
(Now write it out a 100 times or I'll cut your b...)0
