flight carrier

Hi,

I'm searching for return flights to the US from London through skyscanner website. On the results it shows FINNAIR then operated by American Airlines/British Airways. Is this mean I'll be boarding a FINNAIR aircraft or American Airlines/British Airways?

Thanks.

San

Not necessarily - these days a flight can have several numbers, one for each codeshare partner.

However, if the OP gives a flight number someone may be able to identify the actual carrier.

The majority are AA/BA planes, the last few times I have travelled from the US (Chicago O'Hare and JFK/La Guardia) to London have been AA.

thanks for the replies. I haven't actually bought the ticket yet, so I can't give any flight number

The "operated by xxxx" is the airline who you actually fly with. It's just that Finnair are selling you the ticket through a codeshare agreement they have with AA/BA.

The flight number is given in the 'Details' section of the search. It will be something like AYxxxx. Google this flight number and you can find out which carrier AA or BA operates it.

    e.g. AY5760 is actually AA86 ORD-LHR flight

Others have explained how the coding works, but just to emphasise, you will never board a Finnair aircraft for a direct flight between the UK and the US. They only fly from Helsinki, and I wouldn't imagine the cheapest seats available would ever route you via Helsinki.
