My (now) ex and his brother mucking about in his bedroom.

Brother throws a boot at ex. Ex ducks, and the boot smashes the window.

Brother's statement to their Mother was that it was ex's fault because he had ducked.

Former SIL and I both pregnant with first child, due to deliver four days apart. I deliver first, the day before her due date. She and BIL refuse to come and meet their new nephew because she's so close to her time.

This MIGHT have been understandable, had she not been giving birth in the same hospital (this was in the days when you stayed in for four or five days for a first child).....

My ex asked for a list of options to buy from as christnas presents for our daughter.

The main one she wanted was exclusive to Toys R Us. He said there would be no way for him to get it as it was too far to drive and being a ONLY a month before Christmas he would not have time.

The store is maybe a 20 minute drive from where he lives and even closer to his relatives. And he cancelled his weekly contact for the six weeks running up to Christmas as he was busy running his mother and family to airports etc. On one occasion he cancelled, I took my daughter to the same Toys R Us, almost an hour trip from my house and I saw him there with his nephew. He spotted me and run out the store!

Christmas Day he told her again that he hadn't bought her preferred present as he never goes to Toys R Us!

Oh wow, understand why this is an ex.

I had to significantly change the menu for my wedding as one of my guests was massively allergic to nuts. She was the girlfriend of a work mate and I had actually never met her. They cancelled last minute due to sickness. Fair enough, s**t happens. Then I saw the FB pictures of the party they DID go to that night. He's no longer a mate.

In my youth I was a keen cross country runner, but not so good with short distance. One time during training I was put up against one of the best girls for the 100 Metres. I thought she'd thrash the pants off me, so I was shocked that I beat her  :j

However, the mystery was solved when she announced that she'd eaten half a crisp that morning.
  • Lots of years ago I had a new assistant manager at work who, within a fortnight of starting in the company, had to take time off on compassionate leave as his young son had just been diagnosed with advanced leukaemia. An awful situation as he had just divorced the child's mother and moved away to take up this position at fairly short notice.
He had a few weeks leave and was due to return once the child's condition had stabilised, only to tell us that his mother had died suddenly the day before and he would, sadly, need to arrange and attend her funeral. The son was still deteriorating fast at this stage and the rest of the (close-knit) team were deeply concerned about our new member's wellbeing but the company was able to approve further compassionate leave on full pay, so at least he didn't have to worry about finances.

While he was on leave the manager got around to getting the references that had been overlooked in the rush to appoint him. His previous employer asked, with some concern, after the man's son, who "had just been diagnosed with leukaemia the day after his mother had died", then revealed with some glee that his mother had died in his previous employment as well, i.e. she had died at least three times at that point, and his son had "died of leukaemia" at least once previously too.

Worst excuses ever (morally, not financially) for taking a few weeks off work. A disgusting man, who I still see occasionally. I don't have the balls to ask after his mother or his son.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.
  • I couldn't possibly load the dishwasher/pick the kids up from school/get out of bed/any mundane task you can think of whilst you go to the hospital for an urgent referral to scan a very suspicious breast lump -

because MY DADDY'S DIED. AND YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT HOW STRESSFUL THIS IS FOR ME.

Yup. I know. I was at the funeral. Nine years ago. When you were 43. I'm a bit more concerned about finding out whether I've got cancer or not right at this moment, so I need you to pick the kids up from school, give them their tea and stay awake until about five when I should get back.

    MY DAD'S DEAD.

I know. I'll ask your mum then, shall I?

YEAH. BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ME. NEITHER DO YOU. I'M GOING TO BED/ [flounce & slam of bedroom door].

"Yeah, I used to lie about my age when I was younger, but now I'm older I'm proud to say I'm younger" "Isn't that still a lie?" "No because I'm mature now"
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

    Of course :)

In contrast, I've got what feels like common or garden half term flu (school staff all know about this, it hits roughly six hours into your first day off). And a steady stream of ginger tea, real tea, water, soup, fusses, head massages and generalised sympathy from the vastly superior Upgraded Version, Bloke v4.0, Permanent Edition)

I actually think being 40 weeks pregnant is not a terrible excuse for not wanting to schlep out to see someone else's newborn absolutely immediately and you don't know what their conception record had been. My best friend gave birth to her first child 6 weeks before I gave birth to mine but she conceived the month she stopped the pill whereas I had 6 long years of infertility and a late miscarriage under my belt. I made a series of excuses not to see her newborn before my child arrived safely because I didn't feel I could say that it would quite literally have broken my heart in two to have to hold anyone else's newborn baby before I knew that my own would survive to be placed in my arms after all that we had been through. I'm not sure she understood and I think she was hurt but she did come and see me with her 6 week old baby when I was in hospital having safely delivered my own and I made sure that her new baby got plenty of cuddles and attention then and I hope she forgave me as we are still friends a long number of years later.
