Class action against Budget/Avis

I got an invitation to be involved/excluded in a Class Action against Budget/Avis relating to the way they insure hire cars in Florida

A summary of the class action can be found here

I'm not looking for legal advice, but I'm curious to see if anyone else has rec'd the saame thing in the post and if they've been able to translate American legalspeak into English !

If you take a look here

you can see that quite a few have received this notification.

It appears that Avis/Budget were self-insuring their vehicles, but charging renters for insurance (which didn't exist).

Seems to be no cost involved for staying in the case, & you "might" get a few dollars back eventually.

Reminds me of many years ago when Freddie Laker was trying to get into the transatlantic flight game. BA, Pan Am & others ganged up to force him out. Eventually a class action was undertaken & all us lucky people who had flown with the naughty airlines got vouchers towards future flights. £40 per person rings a bell.

A few years ago I booked my family on a bus tour package for Manhattan. We got 5 bus tours and a cruise around Manhattan, and paid either £50 or $50 pp (can't recall as it was a while back), which we thought was a good deal. A couple of years later I got an email out of the blue saying the tour companies were guilty of a price-fixing conspiracy and if I signed up I'd be eligible for a payout. I heard nothing for a while but not long before Christmas we were informed we had been paid $77 into our PayPal acount. On checking there was indeed just under £50 from the class action lawyers.
So I'd say you should definitely go for it if you're eligible.
