  • It cannot possibly have been cold enough anywhere this year surely?

I doubt it! My heating has barely kicked in yet this year. Only had frost on the car on one morning.

Just checked a random selection of post codes from around the country and the only ones I could find where a cold whether payment has kicked in were in the Scottish Highlands.

The only trigger so far has been in postcodes covered by Braemar weather station, with 1,000 payments made.

I don't think it matters how many or few payments have been triggered so far, its more a tool to check going forward, I know we have now had 4 nights at zero or below, so it is worth knowing where to check easily.

Yes, Dec 2015 was the mildest in decades, but it has turned v cold now. 2014/15 saw £10.6m paid out in 422,000 cold weather payments, whereas the 2013/14 Winter was v mild with only 1,100 payments (£27k) paid out in only the Braemar area.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

It is good to know, but isn't the trigger 7 days with both day and night time temps remaining below zero? Most of the country is a very long way from that. And as far as I understand it the payments are automatic for anyone who qualifies.
