Raising existing Barclay Card limit

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I currently have a Barclaycard credit card which I've had for about two years. The credit limit on this is £3,500 and I've never used more than £1,800 on the card since I got this. I have always paid back more than the minimum amount, sometimes £200-300 more than this, and always paid well in advance of the due date.

So my question is regarding the option to increase my limit. My fianc! and I are planning our wedding in Tulrs and Caicos and would be looking to get the additional money we need preferably from my credit card as I know I can pay this off quickly. I would be looking to increase this by a large amount however to about £8000-10,000. Does anyone think this big a jump is likely to be agreed as I don't want to harm my credit score?

If this seems unlikely am I best to look into 0% credit cards (although Is there any point if I've already been rejected by a credit card company for this amount?) or loans?

Thanks soooo much for any help!

Cat

Generally, when asking for a credit limit increase on their website, they use their own score which looks at the way you have been using your account. For all the times i have asked for an increase, no credit check has been made from barclaycard.
Barclaycard are known to sometimes double the credit limits so you might be able to get close to the limit you need. No damage for trying i would say.

    This doesn't sound convincing.
If you can pay quickly £10K off, why have you not simply saved for your wedding?!

Easy way would be to sign into your account put in 10000 and it will either say yes, show you the maximum they will increase or no.

Nobody on here will no for sure what barclaycard will do.

If a no then maybe do the eligibility checker in this site or nationwide or MBNA the advantage of the last two is as part of the soft check they will let you know potential limit so you can gauge if an application is worthwhile.

10k is rather a large limit but you can but apply and see

however, if you can 'quickly ' pay this off why don't you always pay the balance in full and why don't you have savings to fund the honeymoon.

£10,000 on a holiday!!! That is a huge amount of money to put yourself into debt with even for a honeymoon. I would think very carefully before you do this. The minimum payments alone would be higher than you have currently paid. Can you really afford the honeymoon who have selected?
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
