has my friends esa been stopped?

and can it be re-started- reactivated. My dear friend, has recently been arrested following heavy drinking. He has a severe drink problem. He was on esa, but was remanded just for approximately 6 days? he has just been released. he has been told his esa has probably been stopped. He wont know till tomorrow, when he checks his account. if it has, can it be reactivated rather than going through the whole claim process. he has been written ff for over 4-5 years due to ill health.

advice would be appreciated

I can't imagine why it would stop, it only stops if you're in -say- hospital for more than 28 days. I'm no expert, but as an ESA claimant myself I can't see that it would stop.

Alcoholism is one example of behaviour which may be misconduct if a claimant has LCW as a result of excessive drinking on one occasion.

It's a while since I worked on ESA but I believe Income Related ESA will cease immediately if somebody is remanded in custody. He really needs to call ESA to check the situation if his normal payment isn't received.
He would be sent a letter if benefit was suspended or ceased.

i stand corrected, sorry  I was considering it from the point of view of someone being anywhere but in the usual home. Noted for future reference, thank you :)

    what is the best approach?

Do *you* need to reclaim? ;) If you are unsure of the status of your claim you need to call the number on any of your letters. They'll be able to tell you what to do next.
