Sweet Pea Seed Pods

I have been given a bag of sweet pea seed pods, and have opened a couple with the idea of planting them out in my cold greenhouse now, however they are tiny compared to my commercial seeds which I have planted five to a pot.

What is the best way of sowing out these seeds?

I assume it is worth the effort?

  • I don't see why you wouldn't treat them like normal sweet pea seeds, ie, sow them now or in early spring. It might be better to sow now, while they're fresh, to avoid problems with mould, etc, as they may not be completely dry. My only other doubt would be the extent to which they come true. I've grown perennial sweet peas from collected seed before, which worked fine, but that was a species rather than a fancy F1.

Nobody can assume anything with seeds, and it's especially hard to trying to second-guess anothers' evaluation of something that hasn't happened yet!

Seriously, just plant them, as above, or throw them away. Those are the sensible alternatives. There's an infinite number of seeds in the world and only a finite amount of time & space.
