How are you travelliing to NYC? Newark has a direct train link to Manhattan, JFK doesn't, though you can use bus and subway. If you are using buses or taxi, the journey time is about the same.

Not correct, from JFK you can take the Airtrain to Jamaica station, from which the train to Penn takes about 20 mins.
  • I can confirm SW17's reply. I'm just back from NYC and it's very easy. One thing we found a bit confusing though, you get your Airtrain ticket to Jamaica station but don't pay for it until you get to Penn (costs $5)

If you're going to travel around Manhattan using the Metro (which is the fastest cheapest form of transport, apart from Shanks' pony) when you're at Penn Station you should purchase a Metro ticket and load it with say $20 this saves you having to find $3 (in notes, the machines don't take coins) for every trip you take.

If I can help with anything re Manhattan or Washington please don't hesitate to ask..... before I forget!
