I don't need whether to get a garmin or tomtom
What I need:
To know cashpoints and petrol stations icons
Prefer landmark turnings
Let me know if I'm in wrong lane, oncoming traffic
Speed I am going at and road speed
Thanks

Both makes are good for what you want, people normally buy what they had previously. If this is your first satnav do the comparisons on line, then decide by price.
Not sure if any satnav will warn you if you're in the lane facing oncoming traffic, I've never tried it!!I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -

So both do all that I have mentioned
Apprantly tomtom and garmin tell you if you goin towards oncoming traffic.0 -
I can't imagine how it could do that on all but the very widest roads and if you're driving the wrong way down a motorway, I suspect other clues would become apparent long before the satnav kicks out a warning.
Actually, no they don't do it - think contraflowsChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
If you need to be told you're in the lane of oncoming traffic, a sat nav isn't what you need.0

I believe that they way they do it is nothing to do with accuracy.
Both Garmin and TomTom GPS receivers have an inbuilt forward facing camera and a microphone with voice recognition software and as soon as the unit picks up the driver screaming "oh f***" and the camera shows the front of a vehicle approaching, it flashes a warning to state that you are in the incorrect lane.0 -
Maybe sf means warning for when he/she is approaching traffic congestion.0

The accuracy depends on how many satellites it's receiving at any one time.
If you press the top left hand corner of most Garmins (where the satellite 'strength' is shown as green bars) you get the number and accuracy.
The best mine can do is 3metres.
Mind you my neighbour's driverless tractor ploughs and can sow seeds in his fields to an accuracy of 3cm - or so he says.0
