How much would you expect a couple to spend weekly on electric on prepayment?

A couple has an electric meter on prepay.

Small 2 bed home.

How much do you think they would pay for it weekly?

They have 2 laptops going 3 hours a day, they do 3-4 loads of washing a week (3 eco washes at 30 degrees C, and 1 longer high temp one,) the telly is on for about 5 hours a day, they have around 10 showers a week each. (high power shower,) and use the microwave for about an hour a week, and boil the kettle about 10 times a day. 2 lamps on after dark in the lounge. Strip light in kitchen on about an hour in an evening.

What would you expect the weekly amount would be on prepay?

Get them to consult a comparison site.

Not only will it indicate the annual cost of the tariff they are on, but the cost if they were (able) to switch to another supplier. :)

whatever they paid it would be approx 20 % less with a credit meter on a one year fix.
Prepayment electric meter shows the kwhr useage on screens "G" and "H"..no need to guess, consult the meter

Thanks for your post Sas, but how much you say they would be running up weekly?

That is all I am asking for now. :)

    Same question to footyguy.

Just guessing but the average yearly electric use for people with gas central heating is 3300kwhrs. works out around £10 to £12 a week with the standing charges.
I know you re not complaining about the cost of prepays, but whenever I hear complaints about prepay meters charging too much its because there is a debt repayment coming off every week.If this is the case ask them to have a look at screens "S " and "T ", which is total debt owed and the weekly repayment.this can be as much as £16 per week

Thanks for your reply Sas. :) Just curious as to what people would think it would be. :)

    See post#2

There are 52 weeks in a year :)

However, consumption of energy is seasonal.

Take a look at the Ovo website for indication of % of energy used month by month.

Do they have electric heating? If so do they have a two rate meter? If so are night storage heaters the only source of heat?
Do they have an electric oven? Is it used?
Do they have a tumble drier? Is it used?

Anything that generates heat will be the higher users of electricity. Lights and stand-by will make up a very small proportion of the bill.

In the absence of any more info, I'd go with £10-£15 per week if no bill being recovered. (Higher when darker longer as footyguy says)

No, none of the above. :)

You've listed the uses. Why not use them?

42 hours of laptops - 45 to 80 Watts, say (depending on graphics), call that 3kWh at most.
    4 washes, 6+4, 10 kWh.
    10 x 2 x 14 x quarter of an hour = 70 kWh . But call it 25 kWh as 15 minutes is a bit long as an average.
add another two and a half to three and a half for tv kettles and background zombies.

That's forty to fifty kWh a week. At 17p per kWh that's £8.50 a week.

Depending on exact current tariff they could save £150 per year coming off the electricity prepayment meter (even without heating or hob or oven use.)

    Interesting results.

Thanks to everyone else who managed to respond without being rude and snarky.

I just wondered what people though, because our energy outgoings are pretty low. Lower than anyone I know personally. We use about £8 a week on our electric, (£34 a month,) and 2 of my friends can't believe it's so low, even though their circumstances are similar to mine, and they actually spend less time in their house!. (Theirs are £59 and £67 a month.) So I asked on here to see what people would think. So it's interesting to see what people are saying and that most people think that the amount I use IS a normal/acceptable amount.

Also, one of my neighbours flat out refuses to believe me, that we spend so little, (her electric bill is £75 a month, so she says,) and she especially can't accept that our gas is £21 a month. (Hers is £85.) Well we are very careful, and we put more clothes on if we are cold; we don't usually put the heating on unless it's less than 1 or 2 degrees C outside. Also, we switch lights and other things off when we are not using them, and don't just leave energy wasting away.

In addition, my brother and SIL have gas and electric DD's totally £175 a month! They do have a 3 bed house and 2 kids though.

My friends AND the neighbour think that either their meters are faulty or MINE is. It can't be that they are using more electric or gas LOL.

Surprised to see that so many on here expect it to be much higher.

I think I will definitely stick with prepay.
