Why do companies ask when your house was built?

And how is the occupant supposed to know unless they bought a new build or it says in the deeds? I want to arrange some home insurance but don't want the fact I genuinely have no idea of the answer to this question to allow the insurer to wriggle out of it in the unlikely event that I need to make a claim (I note when getting quotes online you HAVE TO put a date in, there is no option to say I have no idea).

I've had people asking me if there was any way to check this in a professional capacity, but I've never known of a way to check it. This is particularly the case for tenants - they have even less chance than an owner of knowing the answer to this question.

Of course I could be worrying about nothing, perhaps they just ask in case the property is hundreds of years old and needs a bespoke quote...

Anybody have any ideas on this?
Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.
