Any other uses for garden edging shears?

I bought a really good pair of these and wonder if I can only use them for edging around the lawn. I have a much bigger garden in my new home and I want to look after it properly. It is a lovely garden with lots of shrubs and fruit.
These shears are sturdy and long-handled and I am wondering if any of you use them for other jobs. I notice that there are some straggly bits on top of the hedge which I couldn't reach with my normal shears. Can I use them to trim up there?
