Signing and Jobseekers Allowance

Dear All if anybody who understands DWP systems, please help us.

We are a Branch Labour Party in a very rural town on the Welsh borders. We have a small number of unemployed people, most travel vast distances or 'work off' during the week.

Until recently the Job Centre sent someone to the branch library where people could sign but recently this was stopped and the unemployed have to travel to another remote community 21 miles away. There are 3 trains a day with huge gaps between the train times. This has resulted in people being sanctioned for being late or having to wait 5 hours in the cold with no money. We also have examples of parents losing a day's work to take their son to sign or seriously ill gparents doing the run.

We would like to persuade the DWP to reinstate the library service/delegate the job to the council or a voluntary body.

Does anybody know of other arrangements in ultra rural areas and what are the rules and regulations. Also we have tried to speak to the manager of the local office no local phone number or letter box just a call centre when I finally got through I was advised to write to an office in Wolverhampton. Does anybody know what the management arrangements are??

Thanks in anticipation of your help.
