got a buyer now I can't find a house to buy

    Unfortunately, we are very particular about what we want to buy. Not bothered about decoration etc just the location. ie it must be rural with no near neighbours. We've only had 6 houses since 1968 when we bought our first house so don't move frequently and are not bothered about getting a bargain. It would be pointless for us to move into rented for these reasons. It could be years before we found anything.

    If it was for a month or two we might consider it but even then I don't think my hubbie would. He's got a double garage set up as a workshop and there is so much in there (tools, benches etc) that it would cost a fortune for storage as well. I don't think he would be happy to see all his stuff in storage lol.

    It's an absolute no no for us but I can understand why people do it.

    Mind you, you are right to tread carefully in not having a house if you are coastward-bound. Prices are still climbing steadily, and there's no sign they'll stop, with demand so high.

    Rye or Chichester would be my current choices. Except I've headed back to East Anglia!

    Let out and rent as a taster?

    We were near Chichester and now we are East Anglia. lol

    It's never been a problem before and we have a good budget. It should be quite possible to fit our criteria. Yes, we could pay more if we wanted to but won't unless we feel a house is worth it.

  • Over the many years as a home owner, we have progressed (by increasing our mortgage) to the standard of house we are in now. We have been here for less than five years and are happy with the house. We have received offers over our asking price, it is a desirable house in a good area, with quicker links to London than the areas we have been looking at. We own it outright now and have enough savings to cover fees etc. as well as to stretch to something worth buying if necessary. Apart from the sea, the areas we are looking at have little else to offer in my opinion. I don't want to live in a new build, I don't want to live on a housing estate, I just want to live in a detached, period property with off street parking and, so far, I have seen nothing that fulfils these needs at a price acceptable to us. Maybe we are being fussy but, if so, that's just the way it is. Maybe there will be a mad rush to buy what is available, who knows? People moving out of London may be prepared to pay, what we consider, over the odds.

    So, it looks like we will just take our holidays by the sea and continue to live where we are.

    See to me that just reads as you can't afford "a detached, period property with off street parking " on the budget you have set. I'm not really sure why you expect to be able to or why you put your house up for sale without researching this. Speaking as someone who in the past has been messed about by a vendor who simply had unrealistic expectations of where they were going to be able to move to, it's your buyers I feel sympathy for.

    No but I know you say you can't find a house that suits your specifications in a price range you are willing to pay - whether you can or can't pay more is irrelevant if you won't. And it doesn't look like you have done any research to find this out before marketing and agreeing a sale on your own house. You are simply wasting everybody's time.

    There is no point in me telling you that I did and that it was three months ago and things seem to have changed since then as I know you don't want to hear that.

    Things have probably changed here in the time since we accepted an offer. It happens, even that quickly. We could probably re-market ours and get more, but won't as we don't want to go down that route.

    Anyway, this could go on so let's just agree to differ as I can't really be bothered to justify my thoughts and actions to a stranger.
