How long did you wait for your mortgage offer?

We are now into week 14 of the buying process. We met yesterday with our solicitor to go through the paperwork because it was starting to pile up and I think she was worried we were wondering what was going on. We are nearly ready to go bar a few bits of missing paperwork that they have been chasing for weeks. She suspects they are delaying for a reason but we don't know what.
They have requested we don't complete until oct but thats another story.
I spoke to the EA today to try and get some clarification of the chain as I have been blatantly lied to about this previously from them. I have now found out that our sellers don't yet have an official mortgage offer despite having their offer accepted on a property over 9 weeks ago. This is making me panic. We had ours on paper within a week of the valuation being done. Apparently our lender are fast but surely 9 weeks is a long time.

Mine took around 5 weeks but that was because the lender needed some documents from HMRC which took 2.5 weeks to arrive. 9 weeks sounds a long time.0

They may not have submitted their mortgage application immediately upon having their offer accepted. Can you ask the EA when the valuation was carried out on their purchase? This may give you a better indication.
Timescales do vary from lender to lender, but it does rather sound like the people you're buying from could be moving a little quicker.0 -
We applied for the mortgage in branch on the Thursday evening and had a phone call the following Tuesday confirming the offer with the paperwork in the post on the Wednesday.0

7 working days roughly for me from Application (24th June 2015) to Offer (3rd July 2015) (Santander)0

Has the valuation been carried out yet? I received my official offer one week after this, but my case was fairly straightforward. If nobody has been round to do the valuation yet, I'd be thinking about putting the property back on the market."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0
