Didn't think I had to pay income Tax?

Hello
I rececntly starting working after 8 months of recieving JSA.
I am a single mum working 18 hours a week. (amounts to an annual income of £6300)
I have sorted the Child and working tax credits .. I am right in thinking they are non taxable arent I?
Just had my first monthly pay and the wage slip shows that they have taken £65 for Income tax... I thought I was within the personal allowance?
If I am right... how to I get them to stop taking it and get back what I have already paid please.

It sounds like your employer has put you on an emergency tax code, probably because they didn't have your P45. The best way to sort it out is to talk to your payroll department. Eventually you will be paid back through your tax code, although this might take a couple of months.

Tax credits are indeed tax free. Income based JSA is also tax free, I believe, but Contribution Based JSA is taxable.

Thank you... They do Have my P45, but I didn't get it to give to them until after I started... so maybe it was that delay that put me on emergency tax?

    Tax code is OT 1

You may well find your tax refunded next month too.

Hope the new job works out
