Thomas Cook Over the Counter

Hi, so we go to France on Tuesday. We have been doing our research and decided to go with a Thomas Cook Cash Passport pre paid card. Mainly due to ease and because we had left it too late to get one deleivered.

Any way to the issue, today my girlfriend went into Thomas Cook to collect the card and get some cash for the journey. Now when we got home I reviewed the purchase and was shocked to note that the exchange rate is shown as 1.30000 way below the advertised and promised rate online which I would add shows no warning about in store rate being different.

I know she should have checked it and after tears and tantrums (hers not mine 😂) we have decided to let it go. But surely this goes against OFT standards etc. I did look and couldn't see this issue addressed elsewhere but any help advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

which OFT standard do you think they have broken?
There will have been a large currency rateboard on display in the branch, same as there is in banks and bureaux de change..
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

For future reference when using TC
You can order online at their best rate, and collect in store the same day.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Surely there's a stupid girlfriend OFT standard?

To be honest I have no idea but she claims the board shown €1.38. How can they offer a rate so much lower?

Thanks, seems the confusion is due to what we seen online and what we received in store. Seems a little suspect that they don't quote the rate when purchasing and put the receipt in a sealed envelope. Never known this happen before

The exact figure of 1.3 is a little suspect. Have you compared the euro amount you received with what you paid in GBP to verify it?

What kind of 'research' did you do? :money:
I don't think that you did any research at all...if you did you would have run the other way.
You would have been better off getting the same card from ASDA or Travelex. No ATM withdrawal charge from any of them. 2€ each time with the Thomas Cook card. Tesco will give you a 1% discount if you spend £500. Also no ATM charge.
You can read about the different terms here

I'm afraid you got Thomas cooks shop download rate, which is rubbish but if you don't ask the rate that's generally what rate you get. Did you spend over a certain amount and get the 30 free euros. If you want the online rate you order it online to collect in the shop. Depending on the individual shop and manager you may get some joy by returning this morning to complain, if not lesson learnt always ask and negotiate on the rate.
