Cons to a leasehold business in Scotland

Evening All,

Hoping to gain a little advice from you.

Myself and my partner are looking into a leasehold business. The lease has been historically reviewed every 5 years with no issue and would be up again in 2019.

I am really struggling to get my head around leaseholding - what are the risks and benefits of it?

As the lease is so short what lending is available - I presume there wouldnt be a mortgage out there so is there a particular type of loan?

Is there scope to buy the leasehold and seperatley negotiate an extension of the lease with the freeholder?

What a minefield!!!
