Couple of questions for those who've flown Ryanair

hiya, please could anyone tell me:
- Luggage - we have 10kg for cabin baggage and 15kg for hold baggage each. can anyone tell me if the tiny suitcases like the ones the stewards use are allowed as hand baggabe (providing they're within the size limits stated on the site)?
- check-in - we are planning to arrive 2hours before the flight - is this soon enough? If not, how much sooner do we need to get there, and will this affect the liklihood of being sat together on the aircraft?
- Boarding - we will be two families; one couple with an infant and one couple with 2 children (youngest aged 2). We don't have the priority boarding so what will happen? The two families are fine to be split up but obviously the infant and very young child need to be with of the adults - will the stewards help us with this or will it just be a scram?

Luggage -yes small suitcases with wheels etc as long as they are in the size limits on the site-including the wheels-they total weight including case for each person (not infant unless you booked a seat) needs to be less than 10kg.
You check in then go through security -go as quickly as possible it can take time.
At the gate you need to get as close to the boarding bit as possible -ie where the man /lady stands -sit on a seat as near as possible if the queue starts to form one of you get ready to get up quickly and get a place. As long as you are in the first 20 of the line there will be no problem you will get seats. Be a bit pushy bevause sometimes you get people willing to nearly walk over you despite acrrying an infant. I now tell the kids to spread out and not let people past us.
What airport are you going from-each one is slightly different -at stansted you need to be careful there are signs that point to the non proiority queue but they confuse people.
Tell us which one and someone will tell you the exact palce to be.0 -
Thankyou Cannyscot - were' flying from Liverpool...0

Hi !!!!!!,
- Luggage - we have 10kg for cabin baggage and 15kg for hold baggage each. can anyone tell me if the tiny suitcases like the ones the stewards use are allowed as hand baggabe (providing they're within the size limits stated on the site)? If you are withing the size and weight limits, tiny suitcases should be okay. Just be careful with the only one item of hand luggage rule, i.e. your handbag needs to go into the tiny suitcase or whatever handluggage container you take. Also be careful with the weight, in case of discrepancy between your and their scales.
- check-in - we are planning to arrive 2hours before the flight - is this soon enough? If not, how much sooner do we need to get there, and will this affect the liklihood of being sat together on the aircraft? 2 hours sounds reasonable to me. They don't allocate specific seats, so there is no benefit in checking in earlier for more seat choice.
- Be at the gate early so you can board as soon as poss. Never experienced a scram even with free seating, most people don't care that much as to where they sit. I'm sure the cabin crew don't want young children to sit apart from their parents, so if necessary I expect they would help you and ask people to move.
Have a great holiday :beer:0 -
I have flown with ryanair a couple of times and got two young kids myself, we havent been split up yet and the aircraft is always full. Cant see ryan air splitting parent and child up however my kids are a nightmare on the plane so next time might get to the back of the queue and let someone else entertain them for the duration of the flight lol0

agree checking in early has no bearing on whether you get seats together,or not
you need to be at the boarding gate early for that ......
we travelled with only handluggage, hubby had one of the small suitcases on wheels( within the max size spec) he then placed his laptop etc inside it
we saw some people however ( when travelling from Dublin back to Bristol) with huuuuge rucksack type things then 2 or more smaller bags aswell ? !! so i dont think this is adhered to very well !0 -
Liverpool is not too bad pretty easy -Security still takes about 20 mins at least and you it can take a bit to check in.
Same advice get a chair near the man/woman's desk where you borad and one of you get ready to stand up about 40-25 mins before.
Dont worry too much just get in the first half of the queue -I have only ever had a problem when I was late. Tunnel at Liverpool was closed or something and no taxis could get through arrived at check in 2 mins after closing!!!-not good.0 -
We fly all the time with Ryanair from L'pool and we ahve always got to sit together. We are a family of five. Obviously you need to make sure you are reasonably near the front of the queue and not at the back. Hand luggage is normally no problem but beware going over your 15kg limit on hold baggage.0

Just want to thank everyone who has replied to this thread, you've helped put my mind at rest
I'm paranoid about getting the weights right in our suitcases, i've brought a whole new meaning to the term 'capsule wardrobe'! 0 -
from the CAA website
When I travelled on holiday, my family and I were split up and had to sit separately. Is this allowed?
CAA guidelines recommend that airlines develop procedures for the seat allocation of family groups, particularly when a group includes children. It is probable that family group members would seek each other out should an emergency evacuation be required, an action that could adversely affect the rapid evacuation of the aircraft. Children should be seated where they can be adequately supervised by an accompanying adult in the event of turbulence or a decompression in the cabin.
Children, accompanied by adults, should ideally be seated in the same seat row as the adult.
In wide-bodied aircraft, children and accompanying adults should not be separated by more than one aisle. Where this is not possible, children should be separated by no more than one seat row from accompanying adults0 -
I think famillies with children still get called first after priority booking. Just keep listening at the time. have a nice time.0
