why do housing benefit look for childs full birth cert?

the housing benefits used to look for a short birth cert and now for the new baby they want the "full birth cert".???
I have short birth cert and just means have to spend another £15 for the long one.

    Think of it as a gain, I spend £15 in petrol to get to work, I know the investment of £15 is going to gain me more from my outlay.

    i recently got a copy of my full birth certificate for £9.25.
    if the £14 is too much for you to bear, then don't get one.
    its your choice after all

    its not to much for me to bear!i the past a short birth cert would do.maybe things have changed.....

    Perhaps the father (and where he lives) are considered relevant when claiming benefits?

    thanks all.
    I got talking to a friend who works in citizens advice and she says they look for the full birth cert now.
    I suppose there is very little information on the short birth cert,the child could be anyones!!

    Maybe OP is in Scotland - it seems to be £15 here.

    You can't get it online if it's a registration in the last 6 months.


    And why all the hostility going on in this forum? It seems to me that if people don't like answering people civilly then they should try another forum.
