'Closed' credit card still showing in credit file

Hi,

I have just been discharged from bankruptcy and I'm now beginning to look at cleaning up my credit file. I used to have a credit card with Tesco some years ago which I fully paid off and closed back in 2013. I've just seen that it is still showing in my Noddle report with a positive balance of £4. I have tried to logon to my old online account but it doesn't seem to be active.

Is it normal for this still to be showing? I wouldn't have thought so. Obviously I know the BR will be the biggest issue with my credit file but I want to ensure the rest of it becomes squeaky clean. Will this be in any way damaging to my credit file, as it indicates that I have a cc but I'm not using the credit?

Thanks,
BDA

It will show for 6 years from the date the account was closed. This happens for all credit accounts. It will help your file in the long term as closed accounts are shown to be good when considered with other positive factors.

  • Thanks John. I didn't think this was the case - I had a Capital One credit card which I closed at the same time which doesn't show up in my credit file, so different lenders must operate different policies.
  • Actually, I just checked my Noddle report again and its showing in my list of 'Open Accounts', not the list of 'Closed Accounts'. Surely this can't be right? Does anyone know who I should contact at Tesco Bank to rectify this?

It can take a month or two for some of the CRA's to get the most up to date information.

My mortgage balance for example is about 2 months behind on Noddle.

If you have any sort of a balance on a card, either debit or credit, it will not be fully closed.
  • Thanks zx81. That makes sense. Think it'd be best to contact them and try to get them to transfer the small amount into my current account then so it can be closed properly.
