Hi Everyone
I just bought a second hand car and discovered there is a general scam going on. The con basically involves any kind of car with a price range of £1000 to £1500. There are a lot of people now who pretend to be car traders. They look for drivable cars with faults, buy them cheap, somehow get these faulty cars MOTed and sell it on for a much higher price.
BEWARE OF ANY TRADER WHO SAYS THEY HAVE JUST STARTED THE TRADE AND SO DON'T HAVE A PROPER CAR SALES GARAGE.
BEWARE OF ANY TRADER WHO SAYS THEY JUST BOUGHT A CAR OR JUST HAD A CAR IN ON PART EXCHANGE. THESE SO CALLED TRADERS ARE BOGUS, THEY WILL GIVE FAKE NAMES AND ADDRESS.
THEY WILL KNOWINGLY SELL YOU A CAR WITH A FAULT AND WHEN YOU DISCOVER THE PROBLEM AND TRY TO TAKE IT BACK, THE SO CALLED TRADER WILL BE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT...................THANKS.

nothing new there, going on for years0

Thats why I never pay more than £1,000 for a car. I also only buy ones with that have had a genuine owner for a while and where it is the owner selling it at the owner's address as shown on the V5. I don't bother with HPI checks as usually irrelevant at this end of the market; rather I try to judge the owner/seller as much as the car. I may have missed a few 'px to clear' bargains but I am sure I have also avoided many more lemons.
OP where did you view the car? Was it not at the seller's address? Surely not a car park or railway station?0 -
Car was viewed at seller's address and the car was thoroughly checked and no l do not expect a used car to come without any problems so you are being the retard for suggesting that. Hidden Problems were found a few days after car was purchased and seller wont fix or issue refund.0

what kind of problems exactly?
But you do realize that its a used car - specially the term being USED?
I understand it sucks but that's life, if you want a car without problems- there is always option to buy new/lease. There really is no obligation for anyone to fix anything on that car...0 -

Whats the problems you're having?0 -
So the part of your post that says "THE SO CALLED TRADER WILL BE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND." is untrue; you do know where he is. If you can prove he is a trader (selling cars for a living/profit) then under SOGA you can return the car for a full refund if it is not fit for purpose even though the trader does not have a proper premises. You may have to resort to the small claims court to enforce this.
What exactly are the 'hidden problems'?0 -

There is quite a narrow definition under which you can reject a car. Just declaring it "not fit for purpose" is not enough.
If its a non catastophic fault, then the dealer has the right to inspect the car, and if he deems it to be a fault, then he can repair, replace or refund, depending on which is the most viable option for him.0 -
Hence asking what exactly the 'hidden problems' are.0
