Halifax switching service

Dear All

I apologise if this has been on before..contacted the Halifax today as I am in the process of switching from Nat West to their high interest current account.

I told them that as they had taken so long to do the direct debits and standing order switching ( sending me two forms when I had already sent it in) that I had done all the standing orders and direct debits online myself.

They then told me I DONT qualify for the £100 incentive as I had done the work myself!!

How strange, if they do the work I get a £100 if I do their work for them I dont!!

awaiting a call back as to the reasons why?

Anyone else experienced this and ifs so waht was the outcome?

thanks

Steve W

The terms and conditions for the £100 switching incentive state that you have to use their service to transfer DDs and standing orders to your account to be eligible. If you do it yourself you haven't complied with those conditions so you are not eligible for the £100 incentive.

    Parts of conditions reproduced below:-
"Conditions for the £100 switching incentive:
    1. To qualify for the £100 switching payment you must open a new Halifax current account between 18th June 2007 and 11th August 2007. All account openings are subject to acceptance.
    2. You have to use our Switching Team to transfer Direct Debits and standing orders from your existing account elsewhere to your new Halifax current account.
    3. Our Switching Team must receive your completed switching instruction forms by 25th August 2007.
    4. You must make payments totalling at least £1,000 for two consecutive months, into your new Halifax current account."

  • Hi,i recently moved accounts to the halifax high interest account, and had similar problems with multiple forms being sent out, however i did use their switching service but it did take quite a while for everything to be moved between accounts, and i did eventually get my £100.I can only assume that they insist you use their switching service so that people dont just move one or two direct debits, get the £100 pound and move them back again(i'm not implying that this was your intention)but it's such a pain moving them, that most people probably could'nt be bothered to move them back again.

Although using their switching service doesn't stop only one or two DDs being changed over. Thats exactly what I and many others are doing the only reason to open the new account being to claim the £100 incentive.

Manual transfers can create more work for both banks. Their transfer team would have used automated methods. So, whilst you thought you were doing them a favour, it could create more work for them with manual transfers required. That is probably why they arent paying the incentive.
