Landlord hasn't fixed fixed a water leak in the bath and expects me to pay the full w

I moved in early April and water has been dropping from the shower head in the bath ever since. It's about a full bathtub per day.

My landlord lives in the house with me, and she hasn't fixed this since I moved in. We have electricity only in the house, so the water is heated and wasted all day, every day through this leak/fault. (We have the Economy 7 electricity plan electricity is cheaper during the night and the water is heated overnight ready for the next day).

Do we have to split the water bill 50/50, despite her failing to fix the issue for over two months? If not, how do we work out the difference? What about the electricity?

It's probably about £10-20 per month maybe for this wasted water/electricity.

Thanks

There is no rule as to what the rent includes. It is down to the agreement OP has with his landlady.

I would make the point that I am not prepared to pay for the wasted water and have a plan for moving soon.

Rent should, again should, include bills to avoid this kind of nonsense - and the increased chance that the LL isn't declaring fully to hmrc of course.

Increased chance that it all falls within the rent a room scheme and doesn't need to be declared.

    ... That's what I said?

Ie rent all inclusive - easier to calculate if with in limit.

Bills on top, harder to predict

Bills paid in cash - potentially tax evasion

    This discussion is academic.

Clearly the OP's agreement is that the bills are split - otherwise (s)he wouldn't have come here concerned about paying for wasted hot water!

HaWan - have you spoken to your landlord about the shower? Has he said he'll fix it? Or refused?

    It's costing him money too!

But the end of the day, if he refuses to fix it, and your contract requires you to pay half/part of the bill, your only options are to pay half/part of the bill or move out.

Don't understand what sort of shower you have but if you turned the temp to cold would you still be losing hot water?

Does the property in question have a water meter?

I've mentioned it numerous times to her since April. She's been "looking into it" for two months and now she's finally said someone will come to fix it on Tuesday.

The water bill hasn't come yet so I have no idea what the cost will be. We have no written contract, only a verbal agreement prior to moving in that it will be shared equally.

I don't think there is a water meter. I will find out. I'm not sure why the shower wastes hot water rather than cold :/

If no water meter it will not make any difference how much water you use the bill will be the same. If it's not an electric shower the drip is probably on the hot supply.
