Best hedging plants for clay soil

hi,

i would like to plant a hedge around my garden but have clay soil,anyone got any advice on what may be best to plant please.
would ideally like some thing that is fast growing.

    The clay shouldn't be a problem so long as you prepare the ground properly - dig out a deep trench and add plenty of compost/organic matter to it before planting.

    I would choose whatever hedging you want, but prefer native plants - I like beech, yew or holly... or a mixture, really depends what effect you want.

    Thank you we live in council property on a main road so just want to something thats is better to look at than a old brown fence,and maybe make the garden no seems so dull has its quite big.

    We planted this http://www.ashridgetrees.co.uk/hedging/hedging-packs/edible-hedging but I can't honestly describe it as fast growing. Great fun watching for buds & leaves, but so far all still under 3' & not *yet* going to be good for jam!

    Something climbing? Honeysuckle?

    With clay, preparation really is important. Boring, heavy, tedious and a long term investment but without it, whatever you plant is a bit more of a gamble.
