Do you still need the paper insurance certificate to tax and MOT a car? My friend has lost hers and is struggling to get a copy.

Insurance is no longer checked. Just tax it online, MOT status is checked in real time.0

Insurance is 100% not checked when taxing your car. Shortly after CIE was introduced the government withdrew the crosscheck of having insurance to get VED. If appropriate, your MOT will be checked, insurance not.
With the saving in money on not producing tax discs, removal of insurance "proof" (they fine you automatically under CIE if not SORN'd), no doubt our government will be returning this cash to the hard pressed motorists.0 -

Indeed. Since Dec 2013, a year before the removal of the disc.

Take it with you if you buy from a PO.0 -
A MOT test does not require insurance to be in place.0

Strange how my post in reply to a claim, "Insurance is 100% checked" seems odd when that incorrect post has been miraculously deleted.0
