My car lives on the street and I cannot always avoid parking it under a tree. As yesterday. Now it is splattered with bird lime. Anyone got a patent remedy for removing bird droppings, without damaging the paint work, to save buying expensive OTC products.

It might sound radical, but have you tried water?

As said hot water and a proprietary car cleaning additive or i prefer stardrops, the thing is with some bird poo if its only left on an hour in the wrong conditions it can eat into modern lacquer that quickly, try and not park under the tree im afraid

OTC products do not have to be expensive, you can get spray wax from as little as a £1 certainley under a fiver.
It's a sacrificial layer against any contaminents on the paintwork.
Put a 1:10 shampoo mix in a spray bottle and soak the soiling and it will just wipe off, especially if the paint is waxed or sealed.

I have heavy tar like bird droppings on my car as sometimes can't avoid parking under trees. I leave it so soak with car shampoo for 20 mins or so and it usually just washes off with a little agitation with a sponge. Otherwise, it's out wish the jet washer!

Just leave a hot, soapy cloth/towel on the offending area for 10 minutes and then hose off.
Good for removing splattered bugs too
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Leave it to soak. Leave a damp / wet cloth on it for 15 minutes or more
