Any big car drivers? (Saloons)

Hello All

This thread is mainly for big car drivers, 5 door saloons like Audis, Mercs etc.

I am soon to purchase a long wheel base saloon and I was sat in one the other day.

What confused me the most is....the front of the car and judgement!

I was parked behind a car and could not for the life of me figure out whether, as I'm pulling out, the front of my car will pull out okay or whether the corner of my bumper is going to clip the back of the car in front!!

Any tips from big car drivers?

Thanks!

My Merc has sensors which beep if you get too close.
    Forgotten but not gone.
  • Tony is correct but the sensors are parking sensors so if you are buying a Merc or whatever the sensor will be listed as parking sensors.
As for judging the length of bonnet etc, you just get used to driving a big vehicle, must be the same for bus and lorry drivers, too.

The one Im buying doesn't have parking sensors, or they might be dead? I'll have it checked out or ill add it.

Buses and lorries tend to have a flat front...I think! :)

I guess it'll just be experience. I was hoping someone has a sure fire trick up their sleeve :D

If it's critical, I find that getting my wife to get out and have look works quite well.

Practice. Park close to a wall and see what it looks like.

I jump into anything and i dont give it a 2nd thought, just comes natural now.

I bet its so cool to jump in a car and naturally be able to drive it!

I have a high IQ, but when it comes to driving, my brain doesn't like it. I struggle to drive to locations ive never been so I have to google map it and them memorise the route in my head, that way I have some comfort in what is coming haha! Weird I know!
  • If it has parking sensors they are on the bumpers, little round things. Fitting them afterwards is silly. Buy a car with them already fitted.
  • You have missed the point completely about bus and lorry drivers!

Haha! What was the point? Pls explain! :D:D

Fitting them cant be that big a job surely? Don't call me surely.
  • Bus and lorry drivers alternate between driving their car and the lorry or bus. They have to mentally switch from small to large vehicle with no problems. Once you get used to driving a big vehicle it wont seem strange at all.
Fitting sensors afterwards is silly because so many lux saloons have them factory fitted.
    Has it got heated seats?
Now you really REALLY do want those.
