Hanging baskets - when?
I usually do my own hanging baskets, but can never remember the best time to put them outside.
I have all the plants ready to go in - begonias, petunias, geraniums, fuschias etc - but wonder when is the best time to construct and hang them outside.
It is lashing down with rain today, so no chance of doing them yet;)

You are miles ahead of me, my trailing begonias are still being shy!
When to hang outside, after the last frost? so depends where you are in the UK .
I'm, looking at another month, to hang them up, but they will be assembled and reside in the green house for a couple of weeks.
Baskets, done, grow bags down and tomatoes planted by the end of the month.
As for todays weather ......good for the lawn !!0 -
Its too early well it is here in Yorkshire. I have 4 made and hanged up in greenhouse ready for when there is better weather and no sign of frost.
I think we are looking at a couple of weeks yet.0 -
I prefer to make ours up well in advance so they are settled and growing before putting out. That said the temp for the next 10 days is forecast to be good so I would put them out down here now (except for the wind).I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I have had mine out for a week now and all is ok,coming on nicely0

Well we have just had a cloud burst, any hanging basket would have been destroyed , the rain even drove me out of the green house and back in doors.
Is it really May?0 -

We had the same earlier on, now it is sunny and quite warm.
I think I will leave it for a week at least, then look at the ten day forecasts.
To be honest, the begonia corms (saved from last year) are only just sprouting, and if the petunias show too much signs of growth then I shall just buy a few more.0 -
It was raining here most of day by 4pm it was lovely 30c in greenhouse. Then we got thunder around 5.45pm and its raining again0

Rule of thumb for putting annuals out is when the frost has gone, which is usually third week in May here down south, and later up north.0

Ours are out (Cambridgeshire) - they've already survived a couple of 3-4C nights that have left some white roofs and icy windscreens, and a couple of downpours.
If in doubt you can always pop them down again at night and put them somewhere sheltered if frost beckons.0 -
Here on the Lancashire coast we are protected by Ireland and the Gulf Stream (usually), but it was bally cold last week!
My tomatoes have been planted in the greenhouse for a couple of weeks, yesterday I planted up my hanging baskets, but they will stay in the greenhouse until the end of the first week in June, normally a week earlier but we are away for a little holiday then.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”
