16 year old college and apprenticeship question

I'm asking for my sister in law.
We've tried to look on line etc and are getting confused!!
Her eldest son is leaving school after doing his Gcse's in June, and is starting college for 3 days a week in carpentry ( in Sept) and working the other two days a week for a builder on £25.00 a day. We live in Wales - so it may be possible to apply for EMA £30.00 a week.
Currently she works 24 hours a week on min wage and her husband works full time at £7.25 an hour.
We were wondering if anyone can give us a rough idea of the impact on the household income please?
She's tried to phone tax credit help line - on hold for ages
thanking you in advance
