I need a new front passenger wheel bearing, and the garage said I also need new front suspension bushes and my tracking done. It's an 08 reg C-Max.

The garage are pricing it up but warned it's going to be quite a few hundred, having looked around online the actual parts seem to be reasonably cheap, but I've no idea how long it takes to do the work.

Could anybody give me a rough idea of what I should expect to pay just so I know that I'm getting an okay deal please?

Much appreciated.

most garages have a book or a online system to tell them how much time each job roughly takes
you wont save money by buying cheap parts off the internet and certainly a wheel bearing replacement needs to be a quality item if its to last
i suggest you let garage price up the work and take it from there as to whether you can afford it
im assuming this is a proper garage rather than some bloke who works in a puddle and a shipping container

Yes it's a reputable garage but I would just like a ballpark figure to go by beforehand so that I know their quote is reasonable when I do get it.

I'm not looking to buy cheap or poor quality parts, just to make sure that I'm not being ripped off. I've never seen that kind of booking system?

A garage thats established for a good few years, has competent fitters, clear pricing, doesn't need banners over the door telling you they are a good garage because if they are good you will have found them by recommendation rather than an advert
It doesn't need posh premises ,lounges to lounge in, or even a coffee machine it just needs dedicated workers with knowledge and for knowledge you have to pay, whether its up to date technical stuff or training courses these all come for a cost and this has to be reflected in customers charges

Like my local garage, The current owner is the guy that was the apprentice many years back. And the previous owners did the same.

    The wheel bearing 1 - 1.5hr. £100 maybe?
What bushes is it? There are many in suspension systems..
Tracking, most garages charge about £30-£40 for front wheel alignment, which should be all that's needed.

Also depends where you are in the country

Bushes are one of those things where the parts cost pennies (or more accurately a pound or three) and the time pounds - depending on how much dismantling of, and how stubborn to dismantle, suspension is require you could be looking at a couple of hours work per bush.
  • Ive always bought BRT wheel bearings, they cost a bit but last, or main dealer ones.

I would suspect on this car its not just a bearing but a hub and bearing kit that makes it more expensive.

bearing kit at say £75 suspension bushes and by this i think you they mean control arm bush they are £8-10 or anti roll bush about the same costs, as the McPherson suspension strut doesn't have a bush at the bottom IIRC its one complete metal strut that locks into the hub carrier.

assuming just one side is being done and not both sides and say labor at £55 then i can see a 2 hour charge as it will take over 1 hour (garage time), i can see a £240.00 bill coming your way

Quote is in, 4 hours labour + parts £350.
