Royal Mail changing all 2nd/1st class parcels to Barcode

No difference in price.
All parcels will be barcoded and have confirmation of delivery (no signature, that is still extra)
Reason for the change is to cut down on the fraudsters saying they never received the parcels, quite right imo!
Starting from October this year.

Bar coding is a pretty essential tool in the automated movement of parcels within the system so it is surprising they have taken this long to implement it.0

They are keeping the "tracked" service and "signed for" will still have the £1 or so fee.
Don't see the point of tracked anymore though, if there is going to be delivery confirmation with normal 2nd/1st class mail

Tracked allows the customer to track the delivery from collection/posting right through to final delivery, including all the steps along the way - particularly useful if an item goes missing (e.g. it can identify whre it's last known location was), or allows the customer to identify an issue as it arises. (e.g. stuck at a mid-point delivery office, or goes out on a final delivery van several times)
Confirmation only confirms that the postie delivered the item to the address specified
Signed for obtains a signature on delivery which can be used to identify who actually received it from the postie.0 -

Dont know where you got your info, however RM is nowhere near barcoding that volume of product.
They have a product in place but at this point it is being phased in for Amazon only.0 -
I can confirm this is being rolled out, we have an online business account and RM have been in touch about the changes. Sounds great (lots of ebay parcels went "missing" over the last Christmas period ) but the downside is they expect us to buy a £150-£300 thermal printer which is an expense we hadn't budgeted for.0

What is a signature?
I put it to you it is a handwritten mark to identify an individual by.
Couriers often also collect the name and/or address of the person and include that on the record.
If you collect a RM package requiring a signature from a sorting office, you will be required to supply appropriate identification.0 -

I am sure thermal printers can cost as little as £40 like this:
