So I have a car from carcraft I got 2.5 years ago. The finance is with moneyway and I've always made the payments. I have spoke to them about handing it back and clearing the finance. I can do this as I've now made half the payments and this will clear my finance and ill also be debt free and I have a car lined up that I will be buying cash.

I was wondering as they said someone would come out to inspect it before taking it back. What I'm not sure about is what there looking for. There's no major dents or scratches just stone chips from general wear and tear. Are these sort of things going to be a problem. And also if I wanted to go through with this would they then bill me for repairing those sort of things or is this something they agree with me on the inspection?

have you checked the figures? Sometimes the 50% point in money is after the 50% point in time.

They dont have to agree with yoor thinking on whats deemed fair wear and tear. Its one way they bump up the money you pay them.

How old is the car? Upto 3 years i would expect it to look like it just left the showroom, upto 5 years a few very small marks that are not visible until you really start to look for them.

Is it worth sorting any faults out before handing it back? The money they add on for small repairs will be excessive compared to the price you can get the work done for.

The car is a 58 plate. It looks clean and tidy until you look close at the bonnet it had a few stone chips. This in my eyes is to be expected on any car unless it had jut left the show room. I would get the stone chips taken care of I was just wondering if this is something there going to be picky about and also when would they inform me of additional charges. Do I get time to sort it or would they take it away and bill me?
  • Turn it around, if you were the car owners (leasing company) and it came back down 20% in value due to dents/scratches wouldnt you want to get it back to good condition?

use this to guide you. remember the car may have had some of the damage at time of purchase if purchased used. Not sure if the onus is on you or them to prove/disprove this.
