Sold a phone - have I done all that I can to protect myself?

Apologies in advance if anyone thinks this is a frivoulous waste of their time.

The aforementioned phone http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320144515349&ssPageName=STRK:MESO:IT&ih=011 was bought by someone whose previous purchases were for small amounts. His physical address on PayPal comes back as confirmed and I am eligable for the Seller Protection Policy for the little that it's worth.

The winner of the auction has sent me a message saying can he expect the phone tomorrow or is it too late, which hasn't exactly filled me with confidence. I replied saying that since it's too late today, tomorrow I will be going to the shops and buying the packaging, posting it the following day and sending you the tracking information so you can follow it on Royal Mail's website.

When I do send it off I'll be taking dated pictures of the phone with its back off and displaying its IEMI number so he doesn't try to swop it for a non-working one and letting him know about this as well.

Sorry if this sounds overly paranoid (and long!) to everyone but I never sold something so expensive before on Ebay and am just worried in case anything should go wrong.

He looks like an ebay dabbler, if he was trying to build up feedback fast he'd have bought 1p ebooks. I don't think his low feedback is much cause for concern.

The confirmed address and seller protection are good news - as long as it's posted SD, you've done everything you should :)
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

You will be fine. When I sell Electronics on ebay i always take note of the serial number either with a photo or make sure i have the original reciept with numbers on there. just in case someone thinks they can pull a fast one as you mentioned.

Plus hes paying you via paypal and also if you send Special delivery your covered for insurance upto £500 standard if gets damaged. and you get confirmation of delivery.

    So your covered ;)

I think you've covered the necessary steps regarding the security - taking photos of serial number etc.

I just wanted to put my point accross re the next day postage that the buyer asked about. I noted on your listing that you've stated Special Delivery (1 working day), usually when I see that on a listing I take it to mean I will receive the item in 1 working day, and when I sell items, the buyer will receive it within 1 working day.

I hope I'm not speaking out of turn :o

Taffoire...it is usually accepted that the seller has 7 days to despatch an item, the postage method shown with the ebay estimate of delivery times only applies once item has been sent. Therefore a seller would not technically be in breach of any rule to accept payment on say a Sunday and not send it out until the following Thursday SD to arrive for the Friday.

As there can be misunderstandings it is always worth asking a seller how quickly they post if time is important. Also, I always have a good laugh when I see ebay suggest recorded 1st class arrives in 1-2 days...not here it doesn't and even RM don't accept something is lost or late until 3 weeks (15 working days ) has elapsed.

Finally...watch SD at the moment as they are suspending many services and according to the email updates RM send me Special is no longer guaranteed next day whilst the strikes are going on.

    :o fair enough!:o

will lower my expectations a bit, and relax a little more about rushing out and banging on the post office door at 5.01pm when I've sold something that day!:rotfl:

Thanks to everyone who replied you've certainly helped to put my mind at rest. :)

Taffoire, you're not speaking out of turn at all. The only time I will have to get the packaging is on the way home after work which it will be Wednesday I will be posting it.

Soolin, thanks for the warning about SD not being guarateed next whilst the strikes are on, I'll pass on the information when the item is posted.
