Cost of moving Gas /Elec meters

We live in a bungalow with floorboards and a void underneath. The gas and elec supply comes up into the hall and is against one of the walls.
We are having major works done at present and are thinking of having the meters put onto an external wall.
Two questions...
Can this be done by an electrician/gas fitter, or does it have to be done by the electricity/gas board..
Any ideas of the likely cost...the distance to be moved is about 3 meters (nearer to the supply).
Thanks

20 plus years as a mortgage adviser for Halifax (have now retired), and I have pretty much seen it all....:D

Can only be done by the gas and electricity board. The cost is typically £800 + for each.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

That's not always the case.....
It all depends on where you want to move the meters. If, and you say, want the meters moved from indoors, to outdoors, then you'll have to have gas/elec board to do so, and yes, it would cost alot to do so.
I've only just moved my gas meter, via British Gas for free, but they'll only do so if it's on
1)on the same wall,
2)within a meter of where they're currently sitting.
You can always phone and confirm, you may get lucky and be told something else. Can only be done by the gas and electricity board. The cost is typically £800 + for each.

Anything before the meter is usually owned/maintained by the local board.
Last week I had a gas leak where the rusted old steel gas main entered the house - they had to move the meter outside as they couldn't easily replace the pipes. All work done for free incl. digging up the road / my garden, but they said the cost to a paying customer would have been £2k+0 -
I think cost can vary a lot. Our gas meter was only about 300 quid to move a few metres to an outside wall. The bureacracy involved though (with Scottish and Southern) was ridiculous and they were a real pain to deal with.0

British Gas referred me to Yorkshire Electricity who is our carrier, they have quoted a starting price of £550 + vat but that is only to move the cable , before that can be done I would have to have a meter box fitted and have an electrician to do the rest of the work .This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
