Recommendations for places to stay near Malton Yorkshire

Hello
I have an appointment on 1st April in Malton and as I am travelling from the midlands I want to stay overnight on 31st. Can anyone recommend anywhere nice and not expensive to stay. It will be me and my mum and we don't mind sharing a room. Unfortunately it's the start of the school easter holidays, so places are going to get snapped up as it's supposed to be a very pretty part of the country. Thanks.

Sorry should have said. No car, getting train there. But taxi to Malton is ok if not too expensive0

id be tempted to get a budget accommodation in York and travel by bus/train to Malton. Not a lot of accomodation in Malton i'm afraid. You have the Talbot Hotel which has just been refurbished but unfortunately now has the "James Martin" name tagged to it so is expensive or The Old Lodge which is a lovely little old style hotel but again might be too expensive. A taxi to Pickering would cost about £30....a taxi to York over £50!0
