Day rates and Night rates/Normal and Low Rates
Hi :hello:
We are currently with Southern Electric on Economy 7. According to the different switching websites we would save money by moving to Scottish power.
With economy 7 the night rates apply between 23:30 - 06:30
Any idea what times the night rates apply for scottish power, will they change or just stay the same.
I have looked but can't find them anywhere.
Any help much appreciated

It makes no difference which company is supplying your electricity; the timings will stay the same.
The night rate timings are set either by a mechanical clock on your meter or remotely.0 -

You may have to phone some suppliers for the info. My dads house had two meters, one for day, one for night, and when we found we wanted to change suppliers, the target supplier couldn't handle the two meters.0

The economy 7 night rates are only for seven hours during the night irrespective of your supplier.
Although Economy 7 does imply 7 hours, this varies amongst regions. In our region we get night rate from 11.00 pm - 7.30 am in winter and midnight - 8.30am in winter.
Quite sure this is correct as time clock stopped and was replaced last week. Repairer confirmed these times.0 -

I think that you have misunderstood. The seven hours will be sometime between those times and does not even have to a seven hour consecutive block. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I agree with Expresso.
You don't get eight and a half hours on Economy 7 as your post implies. You get seven hours in that eight and a half hour period. i.e. it could come on at 11.00pm and off at 6.00am or, say on at midnight and off at 7.00am0 -
Hiya, if your bills are high (likely with this horrible tariff stuck in the 1970s!) have you asked about Economy 10 (also known as Warmwise?) Not all suppliers do it, but EDF certainly do and it is making a HUGE difference to my bills (plus I can actually have some heating on DURING THE DAY!!) Re the timings - the company will claim that British Summer Time doesn't make a difference but actually it does, I once sat and watched my meter to check this. (Well, there's not a lot to do in Devon!)Exiled-Geordie-in-the-west-country (not quite in the middle of nowhere, but I can definitely see it from here!)0

I may be missing something here, but I still don't agree with the 7 hours limit. The time clock looks like standard time clocks - it has small pointer saying ON which is at 2300 hrs (it uses GMT) and a second pointer saying OFF set at 0730 hrs. There are no further pointers or switchers in between. I have watched meter and at 2300 hrs (GMT) meter clicks and indicator light moves to low rate and low rate dials start revolving while at 0730 it clicks again, indicator light moves to normal rate and these dials operate. I don't see where there is any provision for switching between low and normal rate between 2300 and 0730.0

If you are on Economy 7 tariff, your timeswitch is incorrectly set. It should be set at say 12:30 - 07:30 giving seven hours at the cheaper rate. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
