Can granddaughters witness grandfather's will

Can my daughters witness my dad's will? They are not beneficiaries.

TIA

Will they become beneficiaries if you die before your Dad?

If so, they won't get any inheritance if they witness the will.

    Best use someone independent.

Whoever you use doesn't get to read the will - they just witness that the right person has signed it.

From the question I gather this may be a DiY Will, otherwise a solicitor would advise against using your daughters.

"It is important that someone who is named as an executor or who benefits (or potentially benefits) under the Will should not act as a witness".

Mojisola has explained why your daughters should NOT witness the Will signing, they may 'potentially' benefit if you die before Dad. Drag a couple of neighbours/friends in to witness.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
  • Thanks for replies - appreciated. Not a lot to leave as dad in care home and pensions go towards care. Just need to make sure about his small policies which he took out for funeral costs are not going to be held up coming to fruition because of lack of will. His sister has recently passed and it made me think about things.
