Recovery disks

I am running 64 bit Windows 7, and the PC has been running really slow of late. I sometimes get a message suggesting that I make recovery disks (obviously in the event of failure), so how do I find this without waiting for the popup message?
I tried a backup of the system last night, and after an hour it had only done 25% and was getting slower.

Often, there's an option in the Start Menu that allows you to create recovery disks. If not, have a look at the support section of the PC manufacturer's website and there should be instructions.0
