Cheap accommodation in Mauritius or Maldives?

Hi there,

Does anyone know where I can get very cheap accommodation for 1 person in Mauritius or the Maldives this June or July.

Ideally, a small B&B or guesthouse would be best rather than a hotel. As long as it has a bed and access to a shower, I'm happy!

Any idea of the cost per night?

Haven't done Mauritius, but have done the Maldives. Beautiful and the best diving but definitely not cheap. I would only go AI and I'm not an AI type but its expensive to eat and drink and there's not much choice of places to eat and drink on some islands. Very little to do on our island, Vilivaru. I ran several laps of the island before breakfast( 400 metres all round) snorkelled or dived after breakfast, read a book, lunch, snorkelled, read some more, teatime drinks, while the girls got ready, dinner, more drinks, bed, repeat next day. Not everyones cup of tea, but very relaxing and take plenty of books.
The Maldives; no news, no shoes, paradise..

I'll be travelling there with some cheap flights and didn't want anything approaching luxury accommodation. I'm happy to buy groceries from the supermarket if necessary.

One of my friends has Mauritian relatives and suggested to me that there might be some smaller places that offer basic accommodation.

By the way, I won't be this tight if I ever return on my honeymoon! ;-)

I went to the Maldives just before christmas, wonderful place!

Dont think you will find any little B+B's though on the Islands, except maybe Male the main one that you fly into and thats not really the best place to get the full Maldivian experience. Try the tourist board they should help u.

We stayed on Kuramathi Island, 3 hotels on that one with loads and loads to do. If you do end up in a hotel i would definatly recommend going All Inc as it is expensive to eat and drink otherwise.
Watch out for the tour operators prices, we went with airtours and booked Half Board initially. They told us that to upgrade to AI it would be £45 pppn extra, i contacted the hotel direct and they said it was possible to upgrade once we got there for just $50 per room per night!! Massive saving!! Cheeky Airtours!!!

Anyway good luck and im sure you will have an amazing time!

I only wish that i had taken money with me to do a PADI diving course as i will probably never go anywhere that amazing again and only did snorkelling, which is fab but gave me a taste for more!!! Now i really want to learn but im not really that keen on uk diving in the freezing cold!

I would contact the Mauritian tourist board for that area.
Maldives I would think it would be cheaper to do a package with someone like Mytavel but take Trolly Dolly's advice and dont book any extra with the Tour op.
https://www.hotelclub.net/ does have some to the Maldives starting at around 70USD a night but you still have to find your own way to the island.
I can get you around 10% (maybe more) off hotelclubs rates via a friend who works for them
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel
