Potential buyers requesting a BIN price

I don't sell a lot so I'm not sure what ebay etiquette dictates should happen in this situation . I listed something last night and have had 2 potential buyers ask what I would like to sell it for. The first, a first timer, I replied to with a specific amount. But now there is another enquiry and I'm beginning to think I could get more for the item if I don't put it on as BIN. The first buyer has not replied to my offer as yet....but what happens if I decide I don't want to list it BIN after all. I presume this is bad form...and can I think of a realistic excuse to go back on my word. Are there any downsides to BIN, like does it cost more?
Thanks,
Rachelle

The real question is can you put a value on it (ie what similar items have sold for)? If so then pick a high middle price and pop it on as a BIN then email both parties. (I am assuming it does not have any bids on it, if it does it is a bit naughty to change from auction now)
If you can't value it accurately then the best course of action is to let it run and see how you get on.
One alternative would be to put it on with a high BIN (no auction) and ask for offers (again u need to know roughly what it is worth) to do this you would need to start again from scratch.0 -
I quite often ask for BIN price.
If I am looking for a specific item and a Seller puts it up for a 6 Day Auction I dont feel happy bidding because it effectively prevents me from bidding on another auction until it finishes.
Even then, my last minute bid may not reach the reserve so I may have been able to get it cheaper earlier (but from a more risky seller).0 -
If theres that much interest already i'd let it run as an auction. It's a bit of a pain trying to convert to BIN from an auction. Also theres no guarantee that these people will buy it after you go to all the trouble.0
