overseas postage costs and Ebay fees..

Hi I have an item for sale on Ebay at the moment and have been asked to post to Hong Kong.
The item is only worth about £4 and the postage will be more than this.
Now that Ebay take fees from the p+p cost I would like to add more to the p+p fees, that I pass onto the buyer, so that I'm not out of pocket. Am I allowed to do this?
If so whate %age do I add please?
I usually charge cost price for p+p and absorb the fees myself but feel reluctant in this instance as the postage is disproportionately high.

I would add the 10% plus a bit extra for paypal fees to cost- after all you are doing the buyer a favour by shipping when you would normally not ship to that location.
So, say £8 actual postage, charge £9.25. Print label off on ebay and they don't see the actual cost anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for the fast reply. I feel a bit mean quibbling over 'pennies' but when the Ebay fees are so hefty it can turn out that I would have been better off giving my items to a charity shop and sitting down reading a magazine!

How does that actually work please ?
Do you need to have a contract with Royal Mail ?
I'm sure most sellers (unless they are a bit simple) add a little extra to the postage. In the past I've used stamps, a mixture of 1st, 2nds etc then the rest bought at the Post Office.
It would take a keen buyer to calculate the total cost.
I don't see anything wrong with adding a wee bit, after all the buyer can see the postage clearly before he/she bids.0 -

To use ebay postage, pack and weigh your item. Then on the sold page it says 'print your postage' , click that link, enter your details (remember to get the decimal point in right place for smaller items) and print the postage label. Tape it on and take it with a certificate of postage to a post office. Get them to take the parcel (there is nothing to pay) and stamp your receipt.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
