Paypal refund - info please

Hi was wondering if anyone can help.
I have looked on the paypal website and I cannot find the information I need.
I sold a large item on ebay, and stated on the listing that is was cash on collection only (no P&P involved) the buyer has paid via paypal, and wishes to collect the item tomorrow.
I refunded the buyer yesterday in paypal and told him I am only accepting cash on collection (as per listing states). He says he has not received the refund, and he is correct my paypal balance is still showing his money in my account.
Please can anyone tell me how long a refund like this would typically take.
I am reluctant to agree to a collection of the goods tomorrow, until the buyer has been refunded. But want to have an idea on time frames before I contact the buyer.
Thanks in advance

The refund should leave your account immediately.
If it's still showing in your account, you've done something wrong.0 -
When I've refunded people before its been pretty much instant, I think on one occasion PayPal were having issues and it took about 12 hours, best contact them if unsure I'd say.0

Thank you both for your comments.
I tried again, and this time it has gone through, so don't know what happened last time.
I didn't want to try again without seeking advise, because knowing my luck I would end up refunding twice!!
Thanks again.0 -

You are lucky that the buyer agreed, he is under no obligation to do so.
Your only problem now will be if buyer decides not to turn up as you have no way of forcing him to come and pay cash.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You may also find you will receive a defect......keep an eye on your dash for the next 10 days or so.0

Oh yes good point, a full refund with no associated case has been reported as triggering a defect before now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
