Item now not working

Bought item off ebay seller said box was only opened to see what was inside so as new item .The item as developed a fault and stopped working he accepts returns up to 14 days after receipt of item .So i emailed today exactly 14 days are up so he should accept return. But i got to wondering how i stand with warranties as the item is new and who should honor the warranties the seller or the item maker and what would i need for the maker to honor the warranties things such as a receipt and such.
Nice to save.

Usually if you are buying from a business trader then it's them you contact regarding any faults, but if a private individual then it's probably hard luck as warranties are not usually transferable & only relate to original purchaser.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
