hi,
just wanted to get some thoughts please, my daughter won a Daisy Rock electric guitar starter pack,
But has received one for Christmas she wants to put it on eBay, but her brother reckons Amazon would be better and easier.

Check how many are for sale on Amazon and the prices. If the price they achieve on Ebay and on Amazon are on a par, I'd choose Amazon every time. There's possibly a slightly longer wait time to get funds in than on Ebay but can't think of any other down sides.

Have had a look on both sites nearly all the ones on ebay are from American sellers,Amazon are selling for nearly £200,but its not about the money she just doesn't want it laying around the house.

I'm guessing she's not going to give it to a passing stranger or a charity shop, so it probably has something to do with the money;)
If she wants a quick sale then a 99p start 10 day Ebay auction would do that.

  • The fees would be slightly cheaper on Ebay plus look at your feedback. If you have never sold on Amazon before you will have a feedback of zero while if you have used Ebay before (for selling or buying) your feedback will be higher and thus more appealing for buyers.

Also as RFW says, depending on how quick you want the money, Paypal will pay straight away while there is usually a 2-3 week delay at Amazon.

For an individual seller, disbursement can be 2-3 days. The fees aren't that much different either, Amazon fees include everything, Ebay fees (obviously) don't include Paypal fees.
Also buyers on Amazon don't pay much attention to feedback, not as much as on Ebay. In my experience, new sellers fare rather better on Amazon, provided it isn't something that lots of other sellers have.

I'd go gumtree/facebook groups first in an attempt to get a local sales and avoid the fees and postage costs.

Ask a cash converters type how much they would give you for it - it might be low and not worthwhile, but it's worth asking to compare it to the average sale price on ebay less fees and postage and potential to be scammed and it might not be as bad as it first appears.
